Measurement and Verification
“What gets measured gets managed” (attributed to Peter Drucker) explains why it is important for countries to better measure progress against their climate policy goals. Whether the goal is clean jobs, innovation in energy technologies, reduced GHG emissions, or increased resilience to climate change, governments will not know if their policies are working or not unless they measure progress. The CPL is beginning to work with countries on measurement, and is constructing a basket of indicators that can be used by any government who wishes to know their baseline, where they need to improve, or to demonstrate how well their policies worked. The CPL is working with Woods Hole Research Center on this project as well.
